United
win to tie 4th place. The race for 3rd position, behind Derby
and Middlesborough is heating up with 4 teams in the hunt. At the top of the pack
are Arsenal playing well, with a youthie in the side, sitting on 15 points.
Then close behind is a chasing pack of 3 teams. Fronted by Dundee United, another
youth laden team who have not enjoyed the best of luck this season, premiership
newboys, Manchester United and Kellets Everton side. No team has
an easy run-in but it is believed that Dundee united manager, Andy Grant is pushing
his lads to grab the 3rd place Arsenal: Southampton, West ham, Middlesborough,
Everton Dundee United: Everton, Manchester United, Southampton, Middlesborough Everton:
Dundee United, Derby, West Ham, Arsenal Man U: Middlesborough, Dundee united,
Derby, West Ham All 4 of the teams must be feeling confident at
the moment, though none of the aforementioned teams can possibly think about the
title which is far too far out of their hands now after the runaway success of
Boro and Derby. It is also assumed that all 3 teams are now safe-ish
from relegation, with Southampton and West Ham 6 and 7 points behind the pack
with 4 to play.
For the second season running
York City find themselves in the Inter-Wing Cup Quarter-Finals, and once again
they go into a game against a top side from the Euro Wing without their goalkeeper
who is forced to miss the match after being sent-off at the weekend. "It's
frustrating not to have Iker" commented the York manager, "but we are
happy to have got as far as the Quarter-Finals. With Iker we would have had half
a chance, but as it is we are just going to go out and enjoy ourselves."
York managed to get a battling 1-1 draw out of their match with Cardiff City
at the weekend despite having their goalkeeper sent-off. "It was a good point,"
commented the York boss, "but we needed all 3. As it is, we won't get anything
out of the games with Bradford, Charlton and Portsmouth so our promotion dreams
are all over. At least Southampton are coming down so we have a decent opponent
next season."
Birch delight at
double swoop Bantams boss Matt Birch was said to be cock-a-hoop following
the double capture of Croatian international defender Dario Srna and Czech superstar
midfielder Tomas Rosicky. Bradford fought off tough competition for the players'
signatures and will throw the pair straight into the upcoming Division 1 clash
against York City.
Nearly There Derby
County took another huge step forward towards glory this weekend with a 2-0
win over Everton. Goals from top scorer Kluivert and MOM Southgate were enough
to seal the win against a depleted Everton side. The win leaves County 6 points
clear at the top with two games to play, and so still not champions mathematically,
but almost there. The Pride Park faithful continue to wait expectantly for
the champagne to be cracked open. Unfortunately, other managers have accused
Derby of being boring. But for the Pride Park faithful, winning is never boring.
Twelve matches played, 9 wins and 3 draws. An impressive record by anyone's
standards, and not without excitment, with 25 goals scored over 12 matches.
Not many 1-0 wins there. The Derby fans are also hoping that they can do the
double this year, by winning cup and league. They will take a big step in
the right direction if they can overcome minnows Notts Forest in the semi-final
on Wednesday. Here's hoping.
ARSENAL
FANS NOT HAPPY!! Arsenal fans are said be be very unhappy with Arsenal
manager Steve Arscott. Results this season have been very varied to say the least
and the fans simply want more. this weekend saw arsenal go down 5-1 to relegation
battlers westham which was very disappointing to say the least. recent performances
have also been rather disappointing after fall out of the title race. the current
league position of joint 3 isn't a complete disaster but its only a slight improvement
on recent seasons and a team like arsenal are expected to push forward and win
trophies which aint happened in the last three seasons since they won the iwc
in season 6. another big issue is the clubs roster. constant change is unsettling
the players and fans as a fair few players in the starting line up know they won't
be playing for the club next season which tends to stop them performing to their
best. star players are always being linked with a move away and there is so stability
within the whole club. even arscott him self is linked with other clubs on a regular
basis which is said to becoming a bit frustrating for the fans. Star play baggio
has publicly announced he would like to stay at arsenal when they move into new
stadium at the end of the season and wished to take arsenal to the next level
and wishes that his manger can start to have faith in him and work with him to
achieve great things. he was said to be very disappointed in the sale of ronnaldinho
in the last iw but he can see it was a good move for the future of the club. the
squad for next season does look very healthy and a title push must be on the cards
but with big teams also in the running next season it looks to be a much tougher
challenge compared to this campaign.
Bolton
appoint Ryan Gregory as their new boss After taking over as manager
of Bolton, Gregory has admitted that his task is harder than first thought. 'I
knew when I came here it would be a challenge but after spending a few days on
the training ground with the lads it is going to take a monumental effort to get
this team to a decent level. The lack of transfer activity by previous managers
has left this team in an awful state and I would like to tell the fans to be patient
- the situation is not going to drastically improve overnight. I will be working
very hard to bring in some fresh faces and hopefully, with a bit of luck, I can
add a bit of quality to the squad. Watch this space.'
| Euro
tease Grant today claimed that a euro manager, who he
vowed not to name today, was mucking about over prospective deals. He said A
manager came to me with a player request and I allowed contact between the player
and the other club. He then did not get back to my player and has left him in
a right state. The poor lad doesnt know whether he is coming or going and
we await further word. However, the manager has a track record of mucking
about and Dundee united confirmed that the euro premiership manager has
had form for very similar action with the club. The spokesperson for the club
said It is an unfortunate situation for the club to be in. As a club who
listens to offers for most players, we have to listen but feel that league chiefs
should take some action against timewasters. Grant is currently
on holidays and was unavailable for comment.
Busy
week ahead for Bantams Bradford City look forward to the biggest week
of their season. With a number of youth players floating around Europe it is
crunch time in seeing if they have the potential to get professional contracts.
Scouts and coaches have been monitoring the players all season and will be compiling
their folders ready to be given to manager Matt Birch. It is thought Birch
will be making the announcement on Monday as to which of the 7 players have
made the grade. Also this week sees the annual player auction take place. Bradford
have been saving up all season for this moment and are hoping to grab 1 or
2 stars. It is thought key area's to strengthen will be midfield and up front
though a backup keeper is also high on Bradford's wanted list. With Bradford
having cash aplenty it is suspected they will announce their primary target
sooner rather than later in order to scare off the opposition.
Within
our Grasp The Pride Park faithful are currently holding their breath,
finding it hard to believe that Derby County are once again on the threshold
of being crowned Premiership Champions. Derby are six points clear at the
top of the Premiership, with 3 games still to play. They cemented their advantage
this passed Sunday, beating West Ham Utd 2-0 away from home, with goals from
Juninho and Kluivert, whilst rivals Boro were held to a draw by lowly Man
Utd. County also have established a better goal advantage than Boro, by +5,
and so, in theory, one more win out of their last three matches should be
enough to secure the crown. Bearing in mind that County are unbeaten in the
league all season, and have still to play a weakened Everton side this weekend,
as well as Man Utd and Southampton, the crowning seems only a matter of time.
This would be a tremendous achievement for the East Midlands club, after rising
up through the leagues ranks in recent times, and it would be the second time
they would have won the Prem in three seasons. Quite an achievement for a
small club. The fans are also excited to here about the surprise signing of
attacking midfielder E_Dag from Birmingham earlier today, and see him as the
ideal replacement for Juninho, who is due to retire at the end of next season.
So, the fans continue to excitedly hold their breath. Lets hope that they
don't have to hold it for long!
Carvalho
joins Bradford revolution Bradford City beat the transfer deadline at
the eleventh hour to sign Ricardo Carvalho from Charlton Athletic for 54 million.
Leaving Valley Parade in order to help finance the deal are John Swift who
has left to Sunderland for 20 million and Yossi Benayoun who has left to Ipswich
for 15 million. The signature of Carvalho is a real coup for the Bantams
and sets them up for next season with one of the most feared defences in the
game.
ARSENAL ANNOUNCE NEW HOME FOR
SEASON 11 Arsenal have today announced that their new 65,000 seater stadium
will be ready for the start of season 11. We will say good bye to the old Highbury
stadium in next weeks league match with rivals Middlesboro. arsenal have enjoyed
10 good seasons playing at the Highbury stadium and have enjoyed many highs and
a few lows. This new stadium which is call the Fly Emirates Stadium will take
the club forward and will mean more revenue for the club which we hope will mean
we can invest in new players for the club in the near future. the purse strings
have never exactly been tight at the London club but this will give even more
freedom. big names such as Baggio and Shelbe have come out and said they are
very exited to be a part of arsenal football club at this exiting time and look
forward to playing on the new pitch in front of even more fans and bringing more
silverware to the already very successful team.
ARSCOTT
LINKED WITH MOVE AWAY FROM ARSENAL? Rumours have been flying around that
arsenal manager Steve arscott has been linked with a move to euro div3 club malmo.
the long time strugglers have put a plea for ne experienced manager to come and
join them to get them out the mess they are in after one bad manger after another.
Many big mangers names where brought up but the main target seems to be the controversial
gunners manager who has already taken his arsenal side from div2 to prem in his
5 seasons in charge with his ruthless transfer policy. with arsenal not
yet being crowned prem champions in arscotts 3 seasons in the top flight it is
thought he should complete is job in hand before thinking about leaving for pastures
new but it is never easy to tell what is going through the life long arsenal fans
mind. the challenge of taking a near dead team and turning them around is one
every one can see he would relish and the transfer opportunities at malmo would
be much more exiting for him. arscott has refused to comment on the rumours
at this time but im sure all will be made clear in the coming weeks as the season
comes to a close
